Video - applying acrylic tone underlay
A light mix of yellow oxide and titanium white thinly applied, thinned just slightly with water when needed.
No attempt to make it even or smooth. The look is rough with uneven shading. I used a medium size inexpensive house paint brush for this (and to apply the gesso too). *Important to note that the gesso paint was applied with smoother, more even strokes and applied not quite as thinly.
One nice thing about using board is that your brush strokes can be hard against the consistently firm wood. It doesn't have any give. Some people like the give and bounce of canvas better. I like both surfaces, but they do each have a different feel. More on wood vs canvas later.
